A: WMPL is now owned by Civic Media, a Wisconsin-based media company. The purchase was completed through the Michigan Civic Media Alliance, which is led by Civic Media with support from the Michigan Independent Media Group.
Q: What is WMPL’s history?
A: WMPL has a rich tradition dating back to 1946. The station has been a cornerstone of local talk radio in the Copper Country for decades. In 1970, Bob Olsen purchased WMPL, and in 2006, J&J Broadcasting took ownership. Now under Civic Media’s stewardship, WMPL continues its legacy of serving the community with quality programming.
Q: What kind of programming do you air?
A: WMPL broadcasts a talk radio format during the day and a sports radio format at night. We feature popular shows like Mitch in the Morning (6-8 am), The Jan Tucker Show (9-10:30 am), Super Saver Hotline (11 am-12 pm), and CBS Sports Radio in the evening. We also air Coast to Coast AM with George Noory late at night for those interested in the unexplained and paranormal.
